How Can Counseling Help?

As a licensed psychologist, Dr. Hauenstein is bound by the American Psychological Association’s code of ethics and by state laws related to privileged communication and confidentiality.  This helps to ensure a safe, confidential and supportive atmosphere in which to share concerns and to work together on issues and areas of difficulty.

Though friends and family, as well as pastors and trusted others, may be available for support and conversation, it is sometimes helpful to share concerns with an “outsider,” namely with a professional who is trained in addressing relational and mental health issues and who can provide some guidance, resources, encouragement and feedback in the desired areas.  A psychologist can also be helpful in making an assessment of current difficulties and suggesting strategies for addressing particular concerns.

Personal goals for therapy and specific concerns will be addressed in the initial session.  Together with Dr. Hauenstein, a course of therapy will be discussed as well as a plan for periodically reviewing progress made toward established goals.  Dr. Hauenstein can become a partner in working to remove obstacles to health and growth and in outlining new paths toward healing and wholeness.
